The Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations
Under the Waste Battery Regulations, QD Group Commercial Holdings Ltd are now offering a take back scheme for all portable waste batteries. You can return your waste batteries to any of our business premises in person (please do not post). All store locations can be found by visiting our Store Finder.
Alternatively, you can find your local waste portable battery recycling facility at recyclenow.com
Most supermarkets and shops that sell batteries will have collection bins for used batteries, and some town halls, libraries or schools may also set up collection points. End-users may find stores in their local area more accessible.
What is a portable battery?
Portable batteries include AA/AAA cells, button cells, mobile phone and laptop batteries. Products that use these include:
hearing aids
portable cameras
toys
watches
hand held vacuum cleaners
electric toothbrushes
Please note, we are unable to accept industrial or automotive batteries. Contact your supplier or local authority for details about how to recycle these products.
Why should we recycle old batteries?
This will reduce hazardous waste (cadmium and lead) going to landfill and help reduce the toxins that can cause harm to the environment.
How can you recycle your old batteries?
When the bin is full we will arrange for the discarded batteries to be collected by a licensed contractor who will then recycle them You can also recycle batteries at many Household Waste & Recycling Centres (HWRCs). Discover more here.

What happens to the old appliances?
Once in our possession we will arrange for the old electrical appliance to be collected and recycled by an approved contractor. If you're buying a new electrical item, we will recycle your old one for free.
Why recycle?
Unwanted electrical equipment is the UKs fastest growing type of waste. Many electrical items can be repaired or recycled, saving natural resources and the environment. If you do not recycle, electrical equipment will end up in landfill where hazardous substances will leak out and cause soil and water contamination - harming wildlife and also human health.
To remind you that old electrical equipment can be recycled, it is now marked with a crossed-out wheeled bin symbol. Please do not throw any electrical equipment (including those marked with the crossed out wheeled bin symbol) in your bin.
What is WEEE?
The Waste Electrical or Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive requires countries to maximise separate collection and environmentally friendly processing of these items. In the UK, distributors (including retailers) must provide a system which allows all customers buying new electrical equipment the opportunity to recycle their old items free of charge. Those establishing their own take-back scheme must as a minimum offer all customers buying new electrical equipment free take back of their old electricals on a like-for-like basis.
